Amazon MGM Studios unveils Henry Cavill's first look in new 'Highlander' at CinemaCon
Amazon MGM Studios' United Artists showcased latest Highlander reboot to exhibitors and fans
United Artists from Amazon MGM Studios have showcased the newest version of Highlander to exhibitors and fans during an event at CinemaCon on Wednesday evening.
Henry Cavill steps into the role of the immortal warrior Connor MacLeod, with Russell Crowe portraying his mentor, Ramirez.
The cast also includes Siobhán Cullen, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Dave Bautista.
Last year, Cavill sustained an injury during pre-production training, which postponed the filming of this Chad Stahelski-directed project rebooting the cult series.
The first Highlander film, released in 1986, featured Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, and depicted the final showdown of a timeless conflict between immortal beings, blending past and contemporary storylines.
Directed by Russell Mulcahy and produced by Peter S. Davis and William N. Panzer, the movie gained a dedicated following and led to various sequels and a TV series.
The exclusive preview shown tonight was striking, global, and grand. Immortals continue their mission through the ages toward the Gathering, where ultimately only one will remain, engaging in epic battle scenes with intricate costumes.
Chad Stahelski, known for the John Wick series, is at the helm of this theatrical rendition, utilising a script by Michael Finch (John Wick: Chapter 4).
Producers include UA's Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt, in collaboration with Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner.
United Artists holds the complete rights to the 1986 classic, with the possibility of developing a new television series. Lionsgate was involved in the film’s development.
