Emma Watson shares funny moment after mistaking rare bird spotters for photographers
The 'Harry Potter' star shares a surprising story about mistaking photographers outside her house for media
Emma Watson has revealed she once mistook a group of birdwatchers outside her home for paparazzi waiting to photograph her.
The Harry Potter star, 36, shared the unexpected story while speaking at the United for Wildlife Business Forum in London, an event hosted by Prince William’s Royal Foundation.
Watson explained that she became concerned after seeing several people outside her house carrying cameras and long lenses, believing she had become the focus of unwanted attention.
“I was in my living room and I saw all these men outside with very long lenses. And I thought: ‘Urgh, today’s the day it’s happened. My goodness,’” she recalled.
The actress said her mother went outside to speak with the group while she quietly tried to leave through another direction. However, they soon discovered the photographers were not interested in capturing images of her at all.
Instead, the group was made up of birdwatchers hoping to photograph a rare red kite that they believed had appeared near her garden.
“They were there for a very, very rare bird, which is called a red kite,” Watson explained, adding that the group was trying to access the area because they thought the bird was nearby.
Rather than turning them away, Watson allowed the birdwatchers into the garden so they could try to capture images of the rare species.
The actress also highlighted the importance of conservation efforts, noting that red kites have successfully returned to areas where their numbers had previously declined.
The United for Wildlife Business Forum focused on environmental protection, with Prince William also calling on business leaders to take stronger action for the planet.
During his speech, the Prince of Wales encouraged leaders to use their influence, innovation, and technology to support environmental causes and create positive change.
