Moshe Kasher opens up about cancer battle following tumor removal surgery
The 'Pitt' star says he is awaiting further test results after undergoing surgery for tonsil cancer
Moshe Kasher has revealed that he is undergoing treatment for tonsil cancer after being diagnosed earlier this year and recently undergoing surgery to remove a tumour.
The Pitt actor, 46, shared that he discovered a bump in his throat while working on The Comeback King alongside Glen Powell and Judd Apatow, which ultimately led to his diagnosis around three months ago.
Kasher revealed on Instagram that he recently underwent a lengthy surgery at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where doctors removed the tumour and treated the affected area.
“Two days ago, a Jewish surgery robot at Cedars Sinai yanked my jaw open for five hours and cut it out,” he wrote, describing the procedure in a candid and darkly humorous tone. He added that the surgery left him with a noticeable neck scar.
Despite his humour, Kasher acknowledged the seriousness of the experience, calling it “the most terrifying and consciousness consuming experience of my life.”
He shared that he is currently in pain and navigating a difficult recovery process, adding that the coming months will be challenging.
“My life has been terror, meditation, tears and medical planning,” he wrote. “I’m in pain and in the middle of a very difficult process. It’s going to be a long summer.”
The 46-year-old comedian, who shares an eight-year-old daughter with wife Natasha Leggero, said he remains hopeful about his prognosis. Doctors have reportedly indicated that his type of cancer carries a high cure rate, estimated in the 95% range.
Kasher is expected to learn next week whether he will require further treatment such as radiation therapy.
He also used his post to raise awareness, noting that HPV-positive tonsil cancer is increasingly common in men under 55 and encouraging people to get vaccinated and screened.
Reflecting on his experience, Kasher thanked his wife, friends, and director Judd Apatow for their support during both his illness and his work on The Comeback King.
Apatow responded to the post with a message of support, praising Kasher’s strength and humour while joking about energy drinks as a way to get through recovery.
Kasher said he is focusing on recovery and gratitude as he continues healing.
“I breathe, I walk, I eat, I survive, I live,” he wrote.
