‘The Great White’ adds Eamon Farren, Miranda Otto, more to cast

Eamon Farren, Arlo Green, Miranda Otto and Sacha Horler have joined Hugo Weaving in ABC Australia’s upcoming legal drama The Great White, with filming now underway in Sydney.

The series comes from See-Saw Films, the production company behind Slow Horses, Heartstopper and Apple Cider Vinegar, and is set to air on ABC TV and ABC iview in 2027.

Variety reported Alongside Weaving, the expanded cast also includes Brigid Zengeni, James Majoos, Emily Barclay and Dinasha Perera, adding to an ensemble of leading Australian screen talent.

Legal Drama Set in a Struggling Law Office

The Great White follows a brilliant but disgraced barrister, played by Hugo Weaving, who is placed under a 12-month supervision order following professional misconduct.

Forced to work out of a struggling legal practice, he takes on what he believes is a minor case involving a dog, only to be drawn into a wider world of animal law.

The story escalates into a series of cases defending animals, ultimately leading to a high-stakes Supreme Court challenge involving a zoo elephant.

Behind-the-Scenes Talent and Creative Team

The series was created by playwright Ange Betzien and developed by Samantha Lang, who also serves as one of the directors.

Mia Wasikowska makes her television directing debut on the project, alongside Alyssa McClelland and Cannes-selected filmmaker Samantha Lang.

Writers include Betzien, Nick Coyle and Andrew Anastasios.

See-Saw Films Expands Australian Slate

Produced by ABC Australia, Screen Australia and See-Saw Films, The Great White marks the company’s first collaboration with the ABC.

See-Saw Films executive Liz Watts said the series blends courtroom storytelling with emotional depth and sharp humour, supported by a strong creative team.

ABC head of scripted content Rachel Okine described the show as “one of the most distinctive and surprising stories” the broadcaster has commissioned.

The drama is expected to premiere in 2027.
