Nigel Lythgoe, renowned producer of shows like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, has vehemently denied allegations of sexual assault made against him by Paula Abdul.

Abdul filed a lawsuit earlier this week in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, accusing Lythgoe of sexual assault on two occasions during their collaboration on the mentioned reality shows.

Lythgoe responded to the allegations through a statement to TMZ, expressing shock and sadness.

He stated, "For more than two decades, Paula and I have interacted as dear, and entirely platonic, friends and colleagues."

Lythgoe further asserted that the accusations were not only false but deeply offensive to him and everything he stands for.

The producer, who claims to have learned about Abdul's accusations through the press, pledged to fight against what he calls an "appalling smear" with all his resources.

Representatives for Lythgoe have yet to respond to further inquiries.

Abdul's lawsuit, filed under the Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act, accuses Lythgoe and associated entities of sexual assault/battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, and negligence.

The legal action has not only raised eyebrows in the entertainment industry but also sparked a public debate about the challenges faced by individuals coming forward with such serious allegations.
