David E. Hoffman of Food Network breathes his last at 70
David E. Hoffman was the creator of Food Network's 'The Best Thing I Ever Ate'
David E. Hoffman, a TV writer, author and creator of the Food Network shows such as The Best Thing I Ever Ate, passed away at the age of 70 in his home city, West Hollywood.
As reported by Variety, the prolific content creator had been battling glioblastoma (growth of cancer from either the brain or the spinal cord) for six months.

David E. Hoffman created and produced some of the most famous Food Network shows such as The Best Thing I Ever Ate and The Best Thing I Ever Made. The shows featured multiple national foods and its recipes.
Back in 2017, Hoffman took legal action against Food Network shows Guilty Pleasures and Top 5 Restaurants.
The writer accused the two shows of being spinoffs of his programs The Best Thing I Ever Ate and The Best Thing I Ever Made.
His filed lawsuit read, “Selected episodes have similar themes, if not the same themes. Episodes feature similar talent (noted chefs and television food personalities), if not the same talent.”

“Both Guilty Pleasures and The Best Thing I Ever Ate are comprised of a variety of self-contained segments, each featuring a different contributor, who (in a fun, passionate, and somewhat confessional manner) discloses to an unseen, but sometimes heard, interviewer what he or she considers a favorite food within the scope of the show’s premise,” the lawsuit further claimed.
Hoffman revealed to Variety in 2017, that he had a meeting with a representative who promised to “make this right.”
However, he was never compensated for his claims.
Apart from his work in the culinary field, Hoffman also wrote for television shows such as Matlock, Diagnosis: Murder and ABC AfterSchool Specials.
He was also lifestyle reporter who worked for both ABC and FOX, a stint with Good Morning America, and appearances on The View.

David E. Hoffman was also the author of the book, The Joy of Pigging Out, in which he reflected on the joy of eating food. He also recommended some of the best places to eat across the country.
This book aided him in kicking off a 2.5 million dollar licensing campaign complete with mugs, magnets and T-shirts which demonstrated his sense of business alongside an impeccable palate.
His cookbooks include The Easy-Bake Oven Gourmet and The Breakfast Cereal Gourmet, which contained recipes from chefs paired with history. These cookbooks were written to make cooking more accessible to readers of all ages.
