Bob Mortimer reflects on heartbreaking near-death experience
Lisa Matthews' husband Bob Mortimer makes devastating health confession
Bob Mortimer, a Last One Laughing star and comedian, has shared a profound reflection on death nearly eight years after his heart surgery.
In 2015, the 65-year-old was forced to undergo a life-saving triple bypass surgery after doctors discovered that 95% of his arteries were blocked.
During the surgery, his heart was stopped for 32 minutes, forcing him to spend a significant portion of time on a heart-lung machine. That experience profoundly alters one’s perception of reality.
In his own words: ‘Ever since the operation, death feels much closer. I think about it more often now. It’s as if I brushed shoulders with it.'
English comedian's followers came to his defense with overwhelming good will, standing up for Mortimer whilst praising him not only for his comedy, but emulating his transparency regarding an issue which is often masked in stigma.
Widely celebrated for his deadpan comedy, Mortimer still makes appearances and actively engages with serious health issues, and makes, campaigns to others to take care of their health on social media.
