Sydney Sweeney scores big with ‘The Housemaid’ after ‘Christy’ disappointment
Sydney Sweeney stars alongside Amanda Seyfried in the newly released ‘The Housemaid’
Sydney Sweeney has finally cracked the code of a box office hit with her newly released film, The Housemaid.
The Euphoria actress previously appeared in the sports biopic Christy, which made headlines for becoming a tremendous box office flop.
At the time, she had reiterated her support for the film, writing on Instagram, “this film was painful, joyful, resilient, beautiful, it was everything.” (Sic)
However, her latest release with Amanda Seyfried has grossed $18 million in its opening weekend so far, which is close to Lionsgate’s estimated debut of $20-21 million.
In comparison, Christy had raked in only $2 million upon its release in November.
Sweeney’s new film has also garnered mostly positive reviews, with an IMDb rating of 6.9 out of 10 and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 75%.
The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone, released in cinemas on December 19.
