Windsor Castle, an official royal residence of the British monarch, holds great significance as it has long served as a venue for meetings, royal ceremonies, and state visits.

Over the years, U.S. presidents have met members of the British royal family at Windsor, Buckingham Palace, and other royal residences.

Currently, the U.S. President, Donald Trump, is visiting Windsor Castle once again, following his earlier visit in 2018.

Below are the other U.S. presidents who have met the British royal family at Windsor Castle:

Ronald Regan

The 40th U.S. President, Ronald Regan, made a state visit to Britain in June 1982, meeting Queen Elizabeth.

At Windsor Castle, he was famously photographed riding a horse alongside the late Queen.

It is worth noting that he was also reportedly the first U.S. president to stay overnight at the royal residency.

George W. Bush

The 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama, marked Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday by visiting her in April 2016.

Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama also travelled to Windsor by helicopter.

The late Queen greeted the couple in the rain as their helicopter landed on the castle lawn.

After exchanging greetings, Prince Philip drove the group back to Windsor Castle, where the queen later hosted them in a sitting room by the fire.

Joe Biden

The 46th U.S President, Joe Biden, visited the castle in June 2021 and again in July 2023.

For his first visit, he and First Lady Jill Biden were welcomed by the Queen in the Quadrangle, where she hosted a traditional Guard of Honour and private tea.

Notably, Joe was the 13th and final U.S. president Queen Elizabeth II welcomed to the UK.

Two years later, he returned to Windsor, this time meeting King Charles III.

However, this visit was not officially described as a state visit, as it did not follow the full standard protocol.
