Following Donald Trump’s second state visit to the UK on King Charles’ invitation, news has begun circulating that the president is now set to return the courtesy.

A senior official from the White House confirmed the possibility to the BBC while The Telegraph were the first to report on it.

“Details of the planned invitation emerged as Mr. Trump flew home on Air Force One,” the outlet noted.

As the British establishment hailed the King’s success with Trump as a diplomatic feat, is it possible that the Crown’s services may be invoked to further the same cause once again?

While a formal invitation is yet to be extended, according to the reports, King Charles’ visit will be scheduled around America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

“Next year is the 250th anniversary of US independence and it is understood that the Trump administration wants to give the UK a starring role in the celebrations,” Telegraph’s report revealed.

Special duty

While the King and his royal team have already played their part in nourishing the diplomatic ties between the UK and the US this week, it would appear that the job may not be finished.

It is no secret that PM Keir Starmer and Charles himself were elated with the results of their latest hosting gig.

A royal source told Vanity Fair, “I understand that His Majesty the King is thrilled about the visit and very pleased with the global optics of it all. The royal family really did pull out all the stops.”

While Starmer said, “We’ve renewed the special relationship for a new era.”

Considering the apparent importance of British ties with the US under Trump, it is highly likely that the reigning monarch would rather not rebuff the president’s offer, if he indeed makes one.

It may also be difficult for the King to rescind his role in his country’s dynamic with Trump’s at this juncture.

A source who accompanied Trump during his summer trip to Scotland reflected on this idea and told The Independent, “By ensuring that a senior royal is there to mark such an important anniversary in the history of these two countries, it helps ensure that the UK can continue to keep President Trump sweet.”
