Jay Ellis set to take on lead role in 'The Rookie' spinoff
'The Rookie' is set to return for it's eighth season January 6, 2026
ABC has finally greenlit The Rookie spinoff series: The Rookie: North for a pilot, marking a new chapter for the popular show.
In a major casting move, Jay Ellis is set to be taking on the lead role in the new upcoming series, which was originally reported to be in development at ABC back in December 2024, as Variety reported.
The Rookie: North will be written by creator Alexi Hawley, who will also take on other roles like executive producer, and direct the pilot as well.
Nathan Fillion, who starred in the original series, will serve as an executive producer alongside Mark Gordon, Bill Norcross, and Michelle Chapman.
The 43-year-old star, known for his work in the Escape Room, Top Gun: Maverick, Running Point, All Her Fault, and more, will not only star in the production but also help produce it alongside Lionsgate Television and 20th Television.
In delightful news for fans, the fan favourite show The Rookie was renewed for an eighth season, scheduled to debut on January 6, 2026.
