Charlie Heaton is giving fans a rare peek into his off-screen life with longtime girlfriend and Stranger Things co-star Natalia Dyer.
In a cover story for Wonderland Magazine published on Tuesday, Heaton reflected on their shared experiences as actors navigating the ups and downs of Hollywood.
The couple has been together since 2017, first met while auditioning for the hit Netflix series, and Heaton describes working alongside Dyer as “precious.”
“It’s been a gift to work with my best friend,” he said. “To be able to have a shared experience with your partner about the anxiety when you don’t get a job, I know what that feels like, she knows what that feels like.”
Heaton added, “You can be there to talk about it, or when you have a bad day at work, or come away from a scene and you didn’t think it worked. To be able to both understand each other on that level is great.”
The actor also commented on fan reactions to their real-life romance, which he described as “nice, I guess?”
He also acknowledged that while they didn’t expect the attention, their off-screen relationship has only “heightened” viewers’ investment in their on-screen characters, Jonathan Byers and Nancy Wheeler.
