David Corenswet reveals creative clash with James Gunn over key ‘Superman’ scene
James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ starring David Corenswet was released on July 11
David Corenswet recently opened up about stepping into the iconic role of Superman in James Gunn’s 2025 film.
During his conversation with Jonathan Bailey for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, the 32-year-old shared the single piece of direction from the 59-year-old filmmaker that he opted to ignore, ultimately shaping his memorable performance.
In an emotional scene, Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, confesses her love to Superman, and while Gunn advised Corenswet to react with surprise, the actor felt differently, saying, “The whole point is, ‘I f****** know that you love me.’”
While the Twisters actor admitted that the director is right about 90% of the time, he felt that, in this instance, the laughter brought warmth to the scene.
While Gunn has further teased Man of Tomorrow, the next Superman installment, arriving July 9, 2027, revealing that it will adopt a different tone.
It is worth noting that Superman, starring David Corenswet, was released on July 11 to mostly rave reviews and blockbuster status.
