George Clooney reflects on Hollywood romance roles and getting older
Clooney says he is following in the footsteps of acting legend Paul Newman
George Clooney has opened up about stepping away from his on-screen heartthrob roles, admitting he’s done “kissing girls” in films.
The 64-year-old actor told the Daily Mail that age and discussions with wife Amal have prompted the change.
Clooney, famous for his string of romantic comedies, said he’s following in the footsteps of acting legend Paul Newman.
“I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did: ‘OK, well, I’m not kissing a girl any more,’” he explained.
Reflecting on aging, Clooney added, “When I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife. I said, ‘Look, I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys. I can still hang, I’m in shape. But in 25 years, I’m 85 years old. It doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real number.’”
The actor emphasized that while he’ll continue working, he’s embracing roles that suit his age and experience rather than romantic leads.
