Teen ‘shoots brother’ as sibling spat over food turns violent
Police found the victim lying on a bedroom floor with a gunshot wound
A late-night sibling argument took a shocking turn in Memphis when a teenager allegedly shot his own brother--merely over food.
According to Memphis police, the 16-year-old boy was arrested after a shooting inside an apartment in East Memphis just before midnight on Sunday. Officers say the trouble began with a familiar household argument: one brother had eaten the other’s food.
The boys’ father told police he heard his sons arguing in one of the rooms. About five minutes later, he heard a gunshot.
Moments after that, one of the boys shouted: ‘He shot me.’
When officers entered the apartment, they found the victim lying on a bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to his stomach.
The accused claimed the shooting was accidental. He told officers he had been playing with a handgun he had received from a friend when it went off, striking his brother.
The injured teen was taken for medical treatment. Police said his condition was not immediately clear.
The 16-year-old was taken into custody at the scene and now faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, others, according to Memphis police.
