A minor argument over a $21 vape pen spiraled into fatal school violence, leaving a Texas teenager dead and another facing a murder charge.

16-year-old Andrew Meismer died after an altercation with a classmate at Ross S. Sterling High School in Baytown on Wednesday, December 17.

His alleged attacker, 18-year-old Aundre Lebron Demond Matthews, now faces a murder charge and is being held on a $3 million bond, according to court records.

Police were called to the school following reports of an aggravated assault. Prosecutors say the altercation began in the school bathroom, where Matthews accused Meismer of stealing a vape pen worth $21, ABC 13 reports.

The argument did not end there.

According to Click2Houston, the two students left the bathroom and entered an empty lab classroom, where the confrontation turned physical. Witnesses told investigators they saw Matthews holding Meismer around the neck as others tried to pull him away.

During the struggle, Meismer was stabbed in the neck with scissors. He was airlifted to hospital but later died from a puncture wound, authorities confirmed.

Matthews was arrested the same day and charged with murder, according to a criminal complaint obtained by People. He remains in custody until his next court appearance on January 7.

In court, Matthews’s lawyer asked for a reduced bond of $500,000, arguing the teen has no prior criminal record, KHOU reported.
