Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to help box office stay afloat over Christmas weekend, leaving behind new releases like Marty Supreme.

According to Deadline, “Despite what’s expected to be a better holiday stretch from Christmas Eve though New Year’s Eve than last year’s stretch of $396.3M (per Comscore), the 2025 annual box office is expected to come up short from its anticipated $9 billion with about $8.8B-$8.9B per distribution sources.”

The outlet further reported that with Christmas falling on a Thursday this year, the immediately successive weekend days “are free and clear of holidays and are pure moviegoing days.”

Therefore, Christmas Day and Friday-Sunday after that will mark “an estimated $75M 4-day take” for the new installment of Avatar. It has already grossed over $398.7M worldwide.

While the Jack Black and Paul Rudd comedy Anaconda is expected to rake in $20M+ across 3,400 venues, with the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth spots being “a toss” between Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson-starrer Song Sung Blue, the “wide expansion” of Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme, with “the second weekends” of the animated film David and The Housemaid also in contention.

Avatar: Fire and Ash opened worldwide on December 19, with Marty Supreme having an eventually successful limited release on the same day, while it will expand to more locations on December 25.
