Viola Davis cheers loudly as Michael B. Jordan wins Actor Award for ‘Sinners’
Jordan earned the award for his dual performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack in Sinners
Viola Davis couldn’t contain her excitement when she revealed Michael B. Jordan as the winner of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role at the 2026 Actor Awards.
Davis, 60, presented the honor at the annual SAG-AFTRA ceremony on March 1. When she opened the envelope and saw Jordan’s name, she audibly gasped before announcing his victory.
Her celebratory shouts echoed through the microphone as Jordan, 39, made his way to the stage during one of the night’s biggest standing ovations.
Jordan earned the award for his dual performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack in Sinners, a 1930s-set vampire thriller directed by Ryan Coogler.
He triumphed over fellow nominees Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon) and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia).
In the film, the twin brothers return to 1932 Mississippi to open a nightclub, only to confront a supernatural threat. The ensemble cast includes Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku.
Sinners also claimed Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the ceremony, adding to its impressive awards-season momentum.
The film recently made history at the BAFTAs and has earned 16 Academy Award nominations, making it one of the year’s most celebrated contenders.
