Koreans often appear effortlessly lean due to a consistently healthy lifestyle rather than extreme routines. Deepsikha Jain, a nutritionist with a Master’s degree in Global Public Health Nutrition, shared insights via Instagram on 31 March 2026.

She explained that dietary habits and activity levels work together to support body composition. Deepsikha Jain said, “First, they eat a lot of fermented foods and boiled vegetables that actually improves their gut health which manages the metabolism a lot more better.”

Key elements of this lifestyle include:

  • Gut health support: Fermented foods and boiled vegetables aid digestion and regulate metabolism.
  • Balanced plates: Meals typically include adequate protein, good-quality carbohydrates, and fibre-rich vegetables.
  • Increased activity: Walking is deeply ingrained in daily routines, with a preference for movement over transport.

Balanced meals

Wholesome and thoughtfully balanced meals are central to maintaining a healthy weight. According to Jain, these combinations enhance satiety and help stabilise blood sugar levels.

Deepsikha Jain highlighted, “Second, if you look at the plate, it is so full and balanced. Proper protein, it's good of carbs and a plenty of vegetables as well. That actually helps them stay fuller for longer.”

More walking

In addition to nutrition, everyday activity levels play a vital role. Koreans tend to move more and sit less, often preferring walking for short distances.

This consistent movement ensures they burn the calories they consume while strengthening their overall fitness.

The nutritionist explained, “Third, they walk more and sit less. Everybody in Korea is so physically active. They use less public transport, more walking.”

By adopting these sustainable, everyday choices, individuals can support weight balance and overall wellbeing effectively.
