Houston man arrested in Louisiana for murder of pregnant partner Ashanti Allen
Authorities identified the suspect as the father of the victim's unborn child
A Houston man accused of killing the mother of his unborn child was apprehended in Louisiana on Monday.
Kevin Faux, 24, was taken into custody in Jefferson Parish in connection with the death of 23-year-old Ashanti Allen.
The arrest occurred less than two months after Faux pleaded guilty to a previous assault against the victim. He is currently awaiting extradition to Harris County.
Investigators identified Faux as the father of Allen’s unborn child during their inquiry into her disappearance.
Allen, who was eight months pregnant with her first child, was reported missing on 10 April after her mother received a suspicious text message.
Her body was later discovered on Thursday near a bayou in the Chimney Rock area of Houston. Volunteers with Texas EquuSearch assisted authorities in the recovery.
Court records indicate that Faux originally faced a third-degree felony charge for continuous family violence.
However, on 19 February, he accepted a plea deal for a reduced charge of assault on a family member and was sentenced to 280 days in county jail.
Allen’s mother, Trisa Gaines Colbert, expressed her belief that the tragedy could have been prevented, stating that her daughter would still be alive had the suspect remained in custody.
The victim’s family has launched a fundraising page to assist with the funeral costs for both Ashanti and her unborn son, whom they had intended to name Jaxon.
The Houston Police Department confirmed that Faux is being held without bond pending his return to Texas.
