Portage Police arrest eighteen year old playing Senior Assassin game at local gym
Adrian Williams told officers the object at the centre of the scare was a water gun
A "Senior Assassin" game at a Planet Fitness gym in Portage, Indiana, escalated into a high-stakes emergency on 10 April 2026.
Portage Police responded to the facility at approximately 1:21pm following 911 reports of an armed man "hiding himself" near the entrance.
Callers described a nervous individual armed with what appeared to be a grey handgun featuring an extended magazine, leading authorities to initiate an active shooter response.
Thirteen officers from the Portage Police Department and the Porter County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene with sirens activated.
Upon arrival, they discovered 18-year-old Adrian Williams seated in a vehicle. Williams informed officers that he was participating in the popular high school game "Senior Assassin" and that the weapon in question was actually a water gun.
Police noted that the toy was indistinguishable from a genuine firearm until they were within a few feet of the suspect.
The department expressed serious concern, stating that the incident placed both officers and the public at unnecessary risk while delaying responses to three other simultaneous emergencies.
Authorities emphasised that while the game is often played safely, the use of realistic-looking props during school hours can trigger widespread panic.
Following a review by the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office, Williams was charged with felony intimidation and subsequently transported to the Porter County Jail.
This incident follows a series of warnings from law enforcement regarding the game, which has been linked to reckless driving and other dangerous activities across the United States in recent years.
