B. J. Novak has shared a charming glimpse into his close relationship with Mindy Kaling’s eldest daughter, Katherine, while detailing his minimalist approach to home ownership.

Speaking in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, the 46-year-old actor and writer revealed that his eight-year-old goddaughter recently expressed a desire to move into his residence.

According to Novak, when he enquired why she wished to live there, Katherine replied: "It’s like a little house in the country."

"The Office" star, who has resided in his Midcentury house in the Hollywood Hills since 2011, reflected on the comment with his signature wit.

He explained that while he sought a property with a scenic view, he was careful to avoid certain legendary Los Angeles hazards.

"I wanted one with a view but not up a creepy road with coyotes and Charles Manson acolytes," he joked during the discussion.

Despite his long tenure at the property, Novak remains firm in his stance against modernising the space, noting that he has developed a distaste for the stress of property updates.

"I no longer believe in them," Novak stated regarding home renovations. He suggested that homeowners are "better off falling in love with your home's quirks and just enjoying them" rather than seeking constant perfection.

Novak remains a central figure in the lives of Kaling’s three children—Katherine, Spencer, and Anne—serving as their godfather.
