  • Lady Gaga will appear as a pop star during a major show sequence filmed in Milan

Meryl Streep has shared the surprising story of how she convinced Lady Gaga to join the cast of the highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada II.

During a recent appearance on Heart Breakfast, Streep, who is reprising her iconic role as Miranda Priestly, revealed that the casting happened via a spontaneous phone call while she was out for dinner in Islington.

"I just said, 'Would you do this? Because it's going to be really good.' And she said, 'Yeah!' Just like that," Streep recalled, noting that the singer agreed despite being in the middle of a massive year-long world tour.

The film's director, David Frankel, explained that the script specifically required a "creative storm" to fill a pivotal scene set during a fashion show in Milan.

While studio executives initially suggested that a high-profile cameo wasn't necessary, Frankel insisted on a major talent.

"They said, 'Well, we only think one person is worth tapping in the movie and it's Gaga,'" Frankel recounted. The "Bad Romance" singer reportedly flew straight from performing for 75,000 fans in a stadium to the film set to complete her scenes.

Emily Blunt, who joined Streep during the interview, praised the addition of the pop icon to the franchise.

The sequel is expected to explore the evolving landscape of traditional magazine publishing in a digital age, with Gaga playing a central role in the Milan-based sequences.

While fans eagerly await a release date, the camaraderie between the original cast and the new additions suggests that the second instalment will maintain the high-energy fashion drama that made the 2006 original a global phenomenon.
