Mark Consuelos opens up about 30 years of marriage to Kelly Ripa
The couple recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on May 1
Mark Consuelos has opened up about the key to his long-lasting marriage with Kelly Ripa, reflecting on three decades together and crediting a simple piece of advice from his father for shaping his approach to relationships.
The Live with Kelly and Mark co-host shared his thoughts during an appearance on the May 14 episode of the iHeartRadio podcast I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario, where he spoke candidly about what has kept his marriage strong since the couple eloped in Las Vegas in 1996.
“One of the great things my dad taught me was… you gotta find somebody that’s better than you, Mark,” Consuelos said, recalling advice from his late father, Saul Consuelos. “Find somebody who’s gonna pull you up, that’s gonna make you better. And I did.”
Consuelos said he considers himself fortunate to have found that person in Ripa, describing their relationship as one that has continuously pushed both partners to grow over time.
The couple recently marked their 30th wedding anniversary on May 1, celebrating a relationship that began after they met while working on the soap opera All My Children, where they played on-screen love interests.
Consuelos also reflected on the public’s long-standing fascination with their relationship, saying fans have remained deeply invested since the early days of their romance.
“They watched us fall in love on a soap… and they saw these two characters like boyfriend and girlfriend,” he said. “We really, really were in love.”
He added that their relationship has remained closely tied to both their personal and professional lives, evolving from daytime television co-stars to long-time morning show hosts.
“So I think they’re super invested in our relationship… and I think what you see is what you get,” he said.
Ripa and Consuelos, who share three children — Michael, Lola, and Joaquin — have often spoken publicly about their enduring bond. Earlier this month, Ripa described marrying Consuelos as the “best thing” she has ever done, while Consuelos said their connection felt “destined” from the very beginning.
