Social media star Laura Clery recalls terrifying moment fridge crushed her at home
The social media star says her young children were nearby during the incident
Laura Clery has revealed she narrowly survived a terrifying accident after a nearly 600-pound refrigerator fell on top of her, leaving her injured and fearing for her life while her young children were nearby.
Clery, 39, described the incident as the “most terrifying night of my life as a single mom,” sharing details across social media and her Patreon account, where she explained how a sudden movement of the appliance escalated into a life-threatening situation inside her home.
According to Clery, her 7-year-old son Alfie was attempting to climb on the refrigerator when it shifted forward.
She said she rushed to steady it, but the heavy appliance suddenly collapsed on her instead.
“The full weight of it slammed me backward into the kitchen island, pinning my lower back and hips,” she wrote, adding that she was unable to move the refrigerator even slightly and described the force as “like pushing against a building.”
Clery said the situation quickly turned frightening as she struggled to breathe and realized she may have been seriously trapped. She added that her younger daughter, 5-year-old Poppy, was also present and began crying during the incident.
In a separate Facebook post, Clery shared images of herself in an ambulance wearing a neck brace and receiving oxygen, writing that the appliance had not been properly secured and criticizing those responsible for its installation.
“This is a nearly 600-pound stainless steel French door fridge that was NOT properly mounted into the wall,” she wrote, adding that the situation “could have absolutely killed” her child and calling it an act of negligence.
Clery said she was eventually freed after emergency responders arrived at the scene. “It took three firefighters to lift it off me,” she wrote, adding that she used her phone to call emergency services while trapped.
In an Instagram video shared after the incident, she again described the moment as the “most terrifying night of my life,” noting that she genuinely believed she might not survive.
“My kids were in the house. I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive,” she said.
Her ex-husband, Stephen Hilton, also reacted publicly, expressing shock and condemning the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Clery, who has built a large online following through comedic content and parenting updates, often shares aspects of her life as a single mother, including raising her son Alfie, who has autism.
The incident has since sparked concern among her millions of followers, many of whom have expressed relief that she and her children were not more seriously harmed.
