Kris Jenner’s late mother MJ Shannon’s official cause of death confirmed
Newly released records have revealed the official cause of death for Mary Jo 'MJ' Shannon
Mary Jo "MJ" Shannon, the beloved mother of Kris Jenner and grandmother to the Kardashian-Jenner family, died on July 16 at the age of 91. Her death certificate, obtained by Us Weekly, lists acute cardiopulmonary arrest as the immediate cause of death.
The report also states that acute respiratory failure and metastatic lung cancer were underlying conditions that contributed to her passing. MJ was cremated on July 23, and no autopsy was performed.
Kris Jenner first announced her mother's death in an emotional Instagram tribute, describing MJ as "the heart of our family" and crediting her with teaching the family the importance of unconditional love, kindness, resilience and faith.
"There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me," Kris wrote, adding that her mother's love and wisdom would continue to live on through her children, grandchildren and family traditions.
MJ became a familiar face to fans through her regular appearances on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Beyond reality television, she founded the San Diego children's boutique Shannon & Co. in 1980 and remained a cherished presence within the Kardashian-Jenner family.
Just days after her passing, Kris honoured what would have been her mother's 92nd birthday with a heartfelt social media message, writing: "Happy Heavenly Birthday Mommy. I love you."
