Johnny Depp feels revitalized as he returns to Hollywood with 'Ebenezer'

Johnny Depp is embracing a new chapter in his career, with insiders saying his upcoming film Ebenezer has reignited his passion for acting and marks a significant return to major Hollywood studio movies.

The 63-year-old actor stars as Ebenezer Scrooge in Ebenezer, a gothic reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, which is set to hit theaters on November 13.

According to a source, the project "felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for Depp, who has been eager to step back into a transformative character role.

The insider said Depp has been "very excited" to film the movie and has remained focused on work while enjoying filming on location.

They added that the role is especially meaningful for the actor, who thrives when portraying larger-than-life characters.

Depp recently surprised fans with a Comic-Con appearance in full Scrooge costume, complete with a top hat and cane, during a promotional event for the film.

Another source said the appearance was "revitalizing" for the actor, noting that he "comes to life" when playing distinctive characters.

Although Ebenezer marks Depp's first major studio release since 2019's Waiting for the Barbarians, insiders insist he never truly stepped away from acting.

Following his highly publicised legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp largely focused on independent and international projects before making his Hollywood comeback.

Directed by Ti West, Ebenezer features an ensemble cast including Andrea Riseborough, Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint and Tramell Tillman.

Depp will also appear alongside Penélope Cruz in the upcoming action thriller Day Drinker, slated for release in 2027.
