Kelly Ripa starts talking again after gum graft surgery

Kelly Ripa is slowly recovering from gum graft surgery, with husband Mark Consuelos revealing she has already started talking again despite strict instructions to avoid speaking during the healing process.

The television host shared an update on Ripa's recovery during the July 28 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, telling guest co-host Kevin Jonas that his wife is "feeling better" and has even started "saying certain things."

Although Ripa was advised not to speak after the procedure, Consuelos joked that she has found a way around the restriction.

"I don't think so," he said when asked if she was allowed to talk, before adding with a smile, "But she's doing it without moving her bottom lip."

Consuelos also revealed that Ripa received an outpouring of support after the couple announced her surgery, saying fans had flooded her with messages wishing her a speedy recovery.

He added that friends also sent ice cream, which proved to be the perfect treat as Ripa is currently limited to eating soft foods while she heals.

Earlier this week, Consuelos explained that the gum graft surgery required his wife to follow a strict recovery plan, including avoiding talking, eating only soft foods, staying away from straws and resisting the urge to check the surgical area.

The TV personality also noted that although Ripa usually avoids pain medication during dental procedures, this recovery has been particularly difficult.

She is expected to remain away from Live for about a week as she continues to recover.
