Rosie O’Donnell reveals why she chose slow weight loss with Mounjaro
The comedian opened up about her ongoing GLP-1 journey, explaining why she prefers gradual progress
Rosie O’Donnell says taking her time has been the key to her successful weight-loss journey, revealing that she plans just one final increase in her GLP-1 medication before completing treatment.
The 64-year-old comedian opened up about her experience on the Bleep! With Ana Navarro podcast, sharing that she has lost around 65 pounds over the past three years while taking the diabetes medication Mounjaro. Rather than rushing the process, O’Donnell said she deliberately increased her dosage slowly to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
She explained that she spent a full year on each dosage level—starting at 2.5 milligrams, then moving to 5 milligrams, and most recently 7.5 milligrams. O’Donnell said she plans to increase the dose one final time before ending the treatment.
“I wanted to go slow because I know that it overwhelms me when I have lost weight quickly before and everyone’s reaction,” she said, adding that the gradual approach has helped her avoid the side effects many people experience with GLP-1 medications.
The actress also revealed she has never experienced common issues such as nausea or digestive problems, despite podcast host Ana Navarro expressing surprise at her smooth experience.
Earlier this month, O’Donnell also described Mounjaro as a “miracle drug” while discussing how it helped quiet the constant “food noise” she had struggled with for much of her life following her type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
Reflecting on her childhood, O’Donnell said her family’s eating habits changed after the death of her mother, contributing to lifelong struggles with weight. She now hopes sharing her story will help reduce the stigma surrounding obesity and weight-loss medication.
Today, O’Donnell says the steady progress has left her feeling “much healthier and more powerful” in her everyday life.
