In the  trailer, Freeman can be heard saying, “What do you dream about? Not the dreams you have in your sleep: the ones you hold in your heart. Don’t be intimidated by the audacity of your dream, be inspired by it.”

“What happens to a dream deferred? Lucky for Dave, he doesn’t know,” he continued.

This Netflix special marks Chappelle’s seventh project on the OTT platform with director of his previous 6 specials, Stan Lathan resuming his role.

Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer  was shot in Chappelle’s hometown, Washington, D.C., at the Lincoln Theatre.

About Dave Chappelle:

Dave Chappelle is an American stand-up comedian and actor.

He starred in and co-created the satirical comedy sketch series Chappelle's Show from 2003 to 2006 before quitting in the middle of production.

After a hiatus, Chappelle returned to the screens after a break and was declared as the "comic genius of America" by Esquire.

Chappelle became a controversial figure in 2021 after his jokes in the Netflix special The Closer, about transgender people, led to company walkouts in October, the same year.

Defending the comedian, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos issued a statement saying Chappelle is “one of the most popular stand-up comedians today” and “as with our other talent, we work hard to support their creative freedom, even though this means there will always be content on Netflix some people believe is harmful.”

Chappelle’s previous Netflix specials include The Age of Spin, Deep in the Heart of Texas, Equanimity, The Bird Revelation and Sticks & Stones.
