Charlie Cox calls fatherhood a ‘huge victory’ while raising two kids

Charlie Cox opened up about fatherhood, calling the everyday challenges of raising children a “huge victory.”

The Daredevil: Born Again star, 43, spoke with People at the show’s season 2 launch event in New York City on March 23, giving a rare insight into his life as a dad. 

Cox and his wife, television producer Samantha Thomas, share a daughter and a son, born in 2016 and 2020 respectively.

“Sometimes with the challenges that come with being a father and a parent, being right-sized in a moment that’s very challenging feels like a huge victory,” Cox said. 

“I’m sorry if that’s trite, but I think when you’re able to be a good version of yourself, despite the fact that things are very difficult, and you’re very tired and very overwhelmed… that is a good victory.”

Cox and Thomas, who tied the knot in 2018, have kept their family life largely private, choosing not to publicly share their children’s names. 

The couple first met while working on the original season of Netflix’s Daredevil, where Cox starred as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Thomas worked as a producer.

Reprising his role as the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante on Disney+, Cox serves as an executive producer on the second season. 

He told People that his behind-the-scenes responsibilities did not alter his on-set approach: “Marvel has always been so generous with their collaboration. 

They’ve always involved me and [costar] Vincent [D’Onofrio]. They’ve always asked our opinions, taken our insights and our notes. In that respect, nothing’s changed—it’s just been a great honor to be asked.”

Earlier, Cox shared a glimpse of his family life with humor while promoting the 2025 film Merv, which centers on co-parenting a dog. 

“My wife and our dog have a very effed-up relationship, they’re way too close,” he joked. “Because I’ve been working a lot and away, our dog has definitely replaced me in the family.”
