Ariana Grande reignites conversation on body-shaming with powerful reminder
Ariana Grande has been subjected to body-shaming during her recent ‘Wicked: For Good’ press run
Ariana Grande has once again reiterated her long-held stance that people should refrain from making comments about anyone’s body.
Over the weekend, the 32-year-old actress and singer shared a heartfelt message, reposting a clip from her 2024 interview with a caption that read, “Resharing this from last year as a loving reminder,” highlighting how meaningful the topic continues to be for her.
In the original video, Grande appeared visibly moved while opening up about the emotional toll body-shaming took on her over the past years.
She recounted what it has meant to grow up in the spotlight, saying she has been under the public eye ever since she was an adolescent.
“I’ve been kind of doing this in front of the public and kind of been a specimen in a petri dish really since I was 16 or 17, so I have heard it all,” the 34+35 hitmaker shared.
“I’ve heard every version of it, of what’s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons,” she continued, pointing out how the never-ending cycle can feel.
Grande stressed the importance of how shattering comments about someone’s weight or appearance can be, especially for someone who is young.
She noted that it becomes challenging to ignore the constant noise when criticism is being directed at you from every angle.
The Wicked: For Good actress compared it to real-life scenarios, such as when a family member remarks, “Oh my God, you look skinnier! What happened?” or the opposite.
Grande added that today’s culture has made people too comfortable commenting on others’ appearances.
“I think in today’s society, there is a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all, commenting on others’ looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind-the-scenes or health or how they present themselves,” she said.
Notably, in 2023, Ariana Grande spoke out against body-shaming and urged fans not to assume someone’s health based on older images.
