George Clooney is looking back at an early career moment that still stings.

The actor revealed he was “annoyed” when Brad Pitt landed a breakout role he had been close to securing in the early ’90s.

Clooney told The Times that he and Pitt often auditioned for the same parts in the late ’80s, when both were trying to break into film.

Clooney said he reached the final round of testing for a key role in Ridley Scott’s 1991 drama Thelma & Louise, starring Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis.

“I was in TV and making a good living,” Clooney said. “But I got to the final test for Thelma & Louise. And motherf***er, Brad got it.”

Pitt’s performance in the film became a major turning point in his career, while Clooney continued working in television before rising to fame a few years later.

Clooney admitted he avoided watching Thelma & Louise for years because he was so frustrated. The actor will next appear in Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly.
