Miley Cyrus breaks her silence about low-key engagement with Maxx Morando

Miley Cyrus is opening up about her engagement to musician Maxx Morando.

Shortly after the news about their engagement had surfaced, the 33-year-old Flowers singer spoke to PEOPLE while promoting Avatar: Fire and Ash, the soundtrack of which features her song Dream as One.

When asked about the engagement, Cyrus revealed what has “astounded” her most about this new chapter with Morando, her fiancé and drummer for the rock band Liily.

“The detail that I can share is that for us, our privacy and us kind of keeping it small has been something that I've been astounded that I've actually been able to have and being able to kind of have more choice,” she said.

“I think it's also being older, being more protective of what I'm open to sharing,” the Angles Like You hitmaker added.

Cyrus also connected her relationship to the themes of Avatar, explaining that the movie is “about love, family resilience and kind of reconnection and that stronger together idea.”

“And so I thought it was kind of perfectly thematic and aligned with where I am in my life now,” she continued.

The couple’s engagement became public after they attended the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 1, where Miley Cyrus was seen wearing a sparkling ring.

While Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theatres on December 19, 2025.
