Kate Winslet recently spoken out against unrealistic beauty standards in Hollywood and their impact on young women.

The Titanic star expressed her fear over ageing women’s obsession with cosmetic procedures to look young.

“It’s terrifying,” declared the 50-year-old in a candid interview with the Sunday Times.

Kate said, “It is devastating. If a person’s self-esteem is so bound up in how they look it’s frightening.”

The Holiday actress, who never had any Botox in her lifetime, admitted she found it confusing to see actresses “dressed how they want, whichever shape,” but then there are so many of them who “are on weight-loss drugs” to look a certain way.

“Some are making choices to be themselves; others do everything they can to not be themselves,” continued Kate.

However, the Reader actress questioned, “Do they know what they are putting in?”

“The disregard for one’s health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever. It is chaos out there,” she stated.

Elsewhere in the interview, Kate also pointed out how social media affected young women’s mental health.

“They have become obsessed with an idea of perfection to get more likes on Instagram, which really upsets me so much,” explained the Revolutionary Road actress.

Looking ahead, Kate urged women to embrace their look like Helen Mirren, Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough who always tried to keep it real.

“My favourite thing is when your hands get old. That’s life, in your hands,” she concluded.
