Nick Reiner was arrested and subsequently charged with murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, who were discovered dead at their home on December 14.

Newly emerging reports have detailed that the troubled son of the legendary filmmaker could be sentenced to capital punishment for his crime.

The two counts of murder which Nick has been charged with “carry a maximum sentence of life without parole or the death penalty,” Variety reported as LA district attorney Nathan Hochman’s claim.

While Hochman notified in a press conference that the prosecution in cases which involve family members “are some of the most challenging and most heart-wrenching cases that this office faces because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes involved.”

The publication also disclosed that the DA, who was elected last year, has revived the death penalty in Los Angeles County. Though the state of California “has suspended all executions since 2019.”

Nathan Hochman’s support for capital punishment reversed a temporary order put in place by his predecessor, George Gascón.

Nick Reiner was arrested for his crime on December 16, while he was found to have killed Rob and Michele Reiner with a knife.
