New York Undercover co-creator Kevin Arkadie died this week at the age of 68.

As per THEWRAP report, Arkadie's family announced his passing on social media Thursday, without sharing the cause of death.

The Emmy-nominated producer’s cousin, L True Green wrote in a social media post, “This man right here was one of America’s greatest storytellers, He has forever changed the landscape of creativity.”

He added, “From having an historic Broadway run, to writing for some of America’s greatest television dramas. He is the reason I have remained in the arts as a writer today. May you rest in peace Cuzzo. Much love.”

Moreover, Arkadie has an extensive TV career, working on series such as CBSChicago Hope, ABC’s NYPD Blue, FX’s The Shield, and more recently BET’s Sacrifice and The Quad.

His first staff writing role was on NBC’s I’ll Fly Away (1991-1993), which starred Regina Taylor and Sam Waterston.

The film producer later co created New York Undercover with Dick Wolf, notable as the first U.S. cop drama to feature two people of colour, Malik Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo.

He went on to write and produce Chicago Hope serve as supervising producer on NYPD Blue and co-executive produce The Shield.

Arkadie also wrote NBC’s mini-series The Temptations and held showrunner roles for BET’s Sacrifice, OWN’s Ambitions, and TV One’s Media. He was co-executive producer on BET’s The Quad and OWN’s Greenleaf.

Kevin Arkadie also won two Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series for Chicago Hope and NYPD Blue.
