Laura Dern has said there was a moment on the set of Jurassic Park when she worried the film might not work.

The Jay Kelly actress recalled the scene while speaking with Business Insider.

She told the outlet about an early scene in which the cast was meant to react to the distant sound of a dinosaur without seeing any visual effects. At the time, the film’s groundbreaking CGI had yet to be completed.

Dern said director Steven Spielberg reassured the cast before unexpectedly making the sound himself through a megaphone.

“He went, ‘Rooaaar,’” she said, describing the reaction from co-star Richard Attenborough as immediate concern. “We had no idea.”

Dern said doubts disappeared once the cast watched the finished film together.

“We were beside ourselves,” she said. “Popcorn was flying everywhere. I was grabbing onto Steven. Mind blown.”

Moreover, in 1993, Jurassic Park was released and went on to earn nearly $1 billion worldwide and redefine visual effects in cinema.
