How Vivica A. Fox got in the best shape of her life for 'Kill Bill'
More than 20 years later, 'Kill Bill' still captivates audiences worldwide
More than two decades after its release, Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill remains one of the most iconic action films of the 2000s.
The 2003 martial arts revenge story follows Uma Thurman’s character, The Bride, as she hunts down the former teammates who betrayed her — including Vivica A. Fox’s Vernita Green.
In a recent interview with Woman’s World, Fox, 61, reflected on the grueling preparation behind her famous kitchen fight scene with Thurman.
“That was six months of training. I thought we were training for the Olympics! We worked out five days a week, eight hours a day,” Fox said. “It was extremely physical, but I’m grateful to Quentin for getting me in the best shape of my life.”
Fox revealed she performed most of her own stunts, keeping even her stunt double on standby.
“My poor stunt double was like, ‘I’m never gonna get to work!’ She only got to do one scene, where I fell back into a glass table. Quentin wouldn’t let me do it, even though I wanted to try it,” she shared.
Beyond the action, Fox cherished working with the ensemble cast, which included Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah, and the late David Carradine.
“When I had to go to Beijing and train for a month, I had breakfast with David every morning and got to hear all his stories. It was an incredible, challenging experience, but so worth it,” she said.
Fox also reminisced about the over-the-top visuals and special effects, including the gallons of fake blood used during the fight.
“I felt like a Black Carrie, because I’d never been covered in so much blood in my life, and they kept spraying me with it, but it was awesome,” she said.
