A freezer, a few ripe fruits, and ten quiet minutes can create a summer dessert that feels cool, creamy, and light.

Homemade ice creams have become a favourite because they are easy to make and require only a few simple ingredients.

Bananas are often used as a base because they turn soft and creamy after blending, providing a texture similar to traditional ice cream without needing heavy cream.

Most recipes use curd, Greek yoghurt, or coconut milk to keep calories low while adding protein and calcium.

7 Healthy Homemade Ice Cream Recipes Using Summer Fruits

Mango Yoghurt Ice Cream

  • Ingredients: 2 ripe mangoes, chopped; 1 cup thick Greek yoghurt; 1 tablespoon honey; 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract; 1 tablespoon lemon juice.
  • Method: Blend mangoes until smooth. Add yoghurt, honey, vanilla, and lemon juice. Blend again until creamy. Freeze for 4 to 5 hours, stirring once after 2 hours.

Watermelon Popsicles

  • Ingredients: 3 cups watermelon, cubed; 1 tablespoon lemon juice; 5 mint leaves; 1 teaspoon honey.
  • Method: Blend all ingredients until smooth and frothy. Pour into moulds, insert sticks, and freeze for at least 5 hours.

Lychee Yoghurt Ice Cream

  • Ingredients: 2 cups lychees, deseeded; 1 cup Greek yoghurt; 1 tablespoon honey; 1 teaspoon lemon juice.

Pineapple Mint Sorbet

  • Ingredients: 3 cups pineapple, frozen; 6 mint leaves; 1 tablespoon lemon juice; 2 tablespoons water.
  • Method: Blend frozen pineapple, mint, lemon, and water slowly until smooth. Serve immediately or freeze for one hour for a firmer set.

Mixed Berry Chia Ice Cream

  • Ingredients: 1 cup mixed berries; 1 frozen banana; 1/2 cup Greek yoghurt; 1 tablespoon chia seeds; 1 teaspoon honey.
  • Method: Blend berries and banana. Add remaining ingredients and blend until thick. Freeze for 3 to 4 hours, stirring once after 2 hours.

Homemade ice creams are an excellent choice during a weight loss journey as they rely on natural fruit sugars rather than condensed milk.

Most of these desserts stay fresh for 5 to 7 days in an airtight container. Using ripe fruits like mango and lychee ensures the treats are sweet enough without extra sugar, while chia seeds add beneficial antioxidants and fibre.
