Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide helps maintain overall health and is well-tolerated by most individuals. On Thursday, she explained that since it is not an exfoliating molecule, it rarely irritates.
"It helps balance and regulate sebum production, making it effective for oily and acne-prone skin," Dr Reddy noted.
How should niacinamide be introduced?
For those adding this ingredient to their routine for the first time, the dermatologist shared several essential tips to ensure the skin adapts comfortably.
Because every skin type reacts differently, a cautious approach is recommended. To introduce the product safely, follow these steps:
- Start with a lower concentration of 2–5%.
- Gradually build up to 10% as tolerance increases.
- Use consistently for at least 4–8 weeks to see results.
- Layer it in a morning routine when fewer activities are present.
- Perform a patch test before the full application.
Can niacinamide be used with other actives?
Niacinamide is highly compatible with other popular ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, and various acids. The expert mentioned that its anti-inflammatory properties make it an "excellent supportive ingredient" that works in tandem with other formulations.
While some individuals might experience mild flushing, simplifying the routine usually resolves the issue. Consistent use helps strengthen the skin barrier and prevent water loss, making it a valuable addition for dehydrated complexions.
