Arjun Patel, Founder of Not Rocket Science, highlighted that the primary issue is often a lack of awareness and consistency rather than access.
Diets frequently lean heavily towards carbohydrates, neglecting the fundamental role protein plays in immunity and metabolism.
Arjun Patel said, "One of the most common gaps we have observed among urban consumers is not necessarily a lack of access, but a lack of awareness and consistency.
"The diets of a large share of the population in India tend to be heavily skewed towards carbohydrates, with insufficient inclusion of protein-rich foods." He noted that skipping balanced meals or relying on quick snacks contributes heavily to this deficiency.
To rectify this, specific dietary adjustments are recommended:
- Breakfast: Start with yoghurt paired with nuts or seeds, or consume eggs or paneer bhurji with bread.
- Snack Replacement: Swap fried foods for roasted chana, seeds, or nuts alongside green tea.
- Meal Upgrades: Add paneer, legumes, or alternative grains to regular dishes.
Arjun Patel added, "For a few years, with the emergence of several options ranging from healthy snacks to ready to consume meals, we are also witnessing a clear shift in consumer behaviour, especially among younger audiences."
Addressing these nutritional gaps does not require drastic changes, but rather practical, consistent shifts to ensure long-term well-being and functional health.
