Maintaining a robust immune system is vital for overall health, yet a controversial segment of the healthcare industry has emerged claiming to strengthen immunity through supplements.

Dr Jayesh Sharma, a Raipur-based oncologist with over twenty-five years of experience, recently challenged these claims. Taking to Instagram on Sunday, he described the entire immunity-boosting segment as a "complete fraud" that has ballooned into a "billion-dollar industry" following the pandemic.

The cancer surgeon argued that people often experiment with these products despite having poor diets or sleep schedules.

"A person can follow an unhealthy diet, a bad lifestyle, and have a messed-up sleep schedule for years," Dr Sharma stated. He insisted that there is no magic pill to improve general immunity, though specific immunotherapies do work for particular disease subtypes.

How do we stay healthy?

According to the report, the only authentic way to protect oneself from disease is to commit to a healthy lifestyle.

Dr Sharma cautioned that supplements often provide a false sense of security, which can discourage people from making necessary lifestyle changes. To stay truly healthy, he recommended the following:

  • Follow a balanced and nutritious diet.
  • Maintain a consistent and healthy lifestyle.
  • Prioritise a regular sleep schedule.
  • Seek proper evidence-based treatment from a doctor when ill.

Dr Sharma concluded that even healthy individuals may fall ill, but the right path involves professional medical consultation rather than relying on unverified miracle cures.

He emphasised that "small, intentional choices" remain the most powerful tool for long-term physical well-being.
