The director on Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One and Two Christopher Macquarie has dropped a major hint about the upcoming installment of the Tom Cruise starrer action-thriller.

Macquarie, 54, has revealed that the movie will majorly focus on discovering Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt’s past before he became Ethan, with the help of a new character Esai.

Ahead of Mission: Impossible 7 release on July 12, 2023, McQuarrie sat down with the Empire to discuss the most awaited film of the Mission Impossible franchise, acknowledging that the movie will explore the hidden aspects of Ethan's past before the IMF.

“Casting Esai allowed us to explore things with those characters and the notion of Ethan’s past. Ethan has a past that predates the IMF, and that allowed us to explore that with a character that knew Ethan before Ethan was Ethan. That’s part of who Gabriel is. Every detail of the story is very carefully considered. People who want to do their homework can derive from that name, whatever they please.”

The update comes shortly after the release of a new trailer of Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One on Wednesday, showcasing the Top Gun: Maverick actor in full action.
