Anne Hathaway opens up about unexpected third pregnancy ‘we were so shocked’

Anne Hathaway has opened up about the surprise of expecting her third child, admitting she and husband Adam Shulman were stunned when they learned she was pregnant again.

The Odyssey starrecently announced that the couple is expecting another baby, who will join their two sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.

Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Hathaway revealed that although the couple knew they were trying for another child, they were still caught off guard by the news.

“Oh, my gosh. It’s amazing. It’s amazing,” Hathaway said. “We knew what we were doing, but we were so shocked it worked.”

“We were so shocked it went this way, so we’re calling this one our buzzer-beater,” she added.

Host Seth Meyers, who shares three children with his wife Alexi Ashe, offered some lighthearted advice as Hathaway prepares to become a mother of three.

“I have three, it's the best,” Meyers joked. “Once there's three, there's not much you can do except watch.”

He compared raising three children to binge-watching a television series, saying each day feels like a “new episode.”

Laughing, Hathaway replied, “Just accept it and enjoy it? Okay, that's great because I love the channel right now, so it's just more of it. Cool, new cast member.”

Meyers also joked that Hathaway should tell her older children, “We're doing this because you guys are getting stale.”

The actress has also been speaking warmly about her experience filming Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic The Odyssey, where she stars opposite Tom Holland and Matt Damon.

In a recent joint interview with Holland, Hathaway praised her young co-star, who plays her onscreen son Telemachus.

“Well, first of all, I have to say as a mom in real life, I very much hope all of my children grow up to be as wonderful as my onscreen child,” she said.

“Tom is like a dream son,” Hathaway added, prompting Holland to laugh.

She also reflected on working with director Christopher Nolan, saying the cast shared a deep admiration for the filmmaker.

“I don't think any of us wanted to let Chris down,” Hathaway said. “So I think we all just kind of harnessed our highest strength and our highest passion, and we just tried to be an actor that was worthy of being in a Chris Nolan movie.”
