David Beckham breaks silence on Victoria Beckham's viral World Cup moment

David Beckham is laughing off the internet's reaction to wife Victoria Beckham's now-viral response during England's World Cup quarterfinal victory over Norway.

The former England captain came to Victoria's defence after social media users noticed that she remained seated while the rest of the Beckham family celebrated Jude Bellingham's dramatic winning goal during England's 2-1 extra-time victory at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.

As David jumped to his feet and punched the air in celebration, alongside children Romeo, Cruz and Harper Beckham, Victoria appeared calm, reaching for her phone instead of joining the jubilant scenes.

Her restrained reaction quickly became a talking point online, prompting comedian Jenny Johnson to jokingly praise the fashion designer as "England's number one fan" in a satirical Instagram post highlighting her lack of visible excitement.

David responded in the comments with a lighthearted explanation.

"She was celebrating inside I promise," he wrote alongside a laughing emoji, adding, "Her reactions were slightly slower than mine."

Another social media user joked that Victoria had likely watched enough football throughout her marriage to the former England star that dramatic match moments no longer surprised her.

The Beckham family attended the quarterfinal together, joined by Romeo Beckham's girlfriend Kim Turnbull and Cruz Beckham's girlfriend Jackie Apostel, as England booked their place in the World Cup semifinals thanks to Jude Bellingham's two-goal performance.

Victoria has previously addressed her reputation for appearing serious in public. In her 2025 Netflix documentary Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girls singer explained that photographs often capture her from an angle where she feels less comfortable smiling.

"I've looked miserable for all these years because when we stand on the red carpet, this guy has always gone on the left," she joked, referring to David.

She added that she actually smiles frequently but believes her best side is often hidden from photographers.

"I'm smiling on the inside, but no one ever sees it, so that's why I look so moody," Victoria explained.

England will now face Argentina in the World Cup semifinals, with a place in the tournament's final on the line as the Beckham family prepares for another emotional night supporting the Three Lions.
