Cara Delevingne reveals why she almost released her debut album under a different name
The supermodel says she seriously considered hiding her identity when launching her music career
Cara Delevingne has revealed she originally wanted to release her debut album under a different name so audiences would focus solely on the music rather than her fame.
Speaking in a new interview with Playboy, Delevingne explained that she was concerned people would form opinions before even hearing her songs.
"Originally, I wanted to release the music under a different name so no one would know it was me, because I just wanted it to go out there," she said.
The Paper Towns star admitted she feared listeners would dismiss her work simply because of her high-profile career in fashion and film.
"I didn't want the preconceived ideas—how many people are going to say it's bad without even listening to it?" she explained.
Although she acknowledged that criticism is inevitable, Delevingne stressed it was never a reason to abandon the project.
"People might think it's bad whether they know or care if it's me or not. But that's not why I've done it," she added.
The actress also reflected on the artists who have supported her creative journey, singling out legendary Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks for treating her as a musician rather than simply a model.
"I've always admired people who have always treated me as an artist first, never as a model, never tried to put me in a box," Delevingne said.
She recalled a memorable moment when Nicks attended one of her early performances and offered an unexpected gift.
"Stevie Nicks came to my 10th show and gave me a ring off her finger. It felt so crazy and insane. I'm still reeling," she shared.
Delevingne officially launched her music career earlier this year after announcing her first tour and teasing the songs I Forgot and Out of My Head on social media. At the time, she described music as both "my biggest fear and my greatest love."
The singer later released both tracks in May and is now preparing to unveil her debut studio album later this summer, marking the next chapter in her expanding creative career.
