Mick Jagger regrets taking John Lennon's advice not to meet Elvis Presley
The music legend revealed he passed up the chance to meet Elvis Presley after John Lennon warned him
Mick Jagger opened up about one of his biggest career regrets, that is listening to John Lennon when the Beatles legend advised him not to meet Elvis Presley.
Appearing on the latest episode of Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, the Rolling Stones frontman reflected on the missed opportunity, admitting he now wishes he had ignored Lennon's advice.
"I remember John telling me, 'You should never meet your heroes. I would never meet Elvis, Mick, if I were you,'" Jagger recalled.
The 82-year-old said he followed that advice at the time but now believes it was the wrong decision.
"I didn't. I took John's advice," he said, before adding, "It was really stupid of me because I would have loved to have met Elvis."
Jagger explained that Lennon repeatedly shared stories about meeting the rock 'n' roll icon, which ultimately discouraged him from pursuing the encounter.
"I wanted to keep my Elvis to myself, my version of Elvis," Jagger said. "I didn't want my version of Elvis shattered like John's was, but maybe my Elvis version would have been different."
Elsewhere during the interview, Jagger reflected on his friendship with Lennon, describing the late Beatles star as someone who enjoyed playful verbal sparring.
"We were more competitive in being sarcastic," he joked, explaining that Lennon loved quick-witted exchanges more than any other form of competition.
According to Jagger, Lennon had a sharp eye for spotting mistakes in conversation.
"He's one of those people that if you said something stupid, he'd pick you up," Jagger said. "He'd see it right. He'd clock it right away."
