Chaos broke out at a McDonald’s along Houston’s freeway on the evening of May 4 after a routine fast-food stop descended into deadly violence over a missing Filet-O-Fish patty.

Anthony Landry became angry when his Filet-O-Fish arrived without the fish and demanded a refund of just $1.41, Mirror US reports.

Staff argued with Landry as tensions rose inside the restaurant.

A 46-year-old Houston lawyer stepped in and told Landry to leave the premises. The situation turned physical, with Landry pushed outside the restaurant, where he fell to the ground.

Moments later, Landry returned - this time armed with a gun he had left in his vehicle. He opened fire inside the McDonald’s, shooting the lawyer nine times. Employees rushed to help the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Houston Police launched a search for Landry following the shooting. He turned himself in a week later and was charged with murder. A jury needed just 20 minutes to find him guilty, and on Thursday a judge sentenced him to life in prison.

Court records also revealed Landry was out on bond at the time after a February arrest for aggravated assault, in which he allegedly struck a family member with a cane.
