Kristen Stewart has spoken out about the entertainment industry, calling it a “capitalist hell” that marginalizes women and other voices.

In an interview with The New York Times’ ‘The Interview’, the actress said the industry creates barriers for artists to express themselves and is in need of change.

“We’re in a pivotal nexus, because I think we’re ready for a full system break,” Stewart explained. “Across the board, and also specifically in the entertainment world, which is very exclusive, there’s so much resistance to voices that aren’t part of the power structure.”

Stewart emphasized the need for change, saying, “We need to start sort of stealing our movies. I’m so appreciative of every union. Trust me, we would not survive without them, but some of the rules and structures we’ve set up have created unbelievable barriers for artists to express themselves.”

“I think having it be so impossible for people to tell stories, and having it be such an exclusive and rarified novel position to be in to find yourself doing so, is capitalist hell, and it hates women, and it hates marginalized voices, and it’s racist,” she went on to say.
